Major improvements to digital voting systems may lie oft the horizon, but the inaccuracies and potential for fraud found in the last U.S. presidential election remain in place Here's the good news about the January 2008 New Hampshire primary recount: Even though 81 percent of the vote was from electronic voting machines, all of it had a paper trail. The bad news? The recount shipment "arrived in trucks with boxes torn open and slit-arriving in the dead of night," explains Bev Harris of Black Box Voting (which bills itself as "America's Elections Watchdog Group"). "Instead of using the state police to transport it, they used two guys named Hoppy and Butch." The pictures of those boxes, posted on the Black Box Voting site, are dispiriting to say the least.
