The Internet helped elect Barack Obama. In the coming weeks, he will no doubt be governing the way he campaigned. He has taken to the Web again with Change.gov. Goals (outlined on his post-election website) include a new Cabinet-level position of chief technology officer charged with making the government's public records "more open and transparent," while generally pushing all agencies to exploit Internet-related technologies. The ambition is to make "broadband Internet access available in every corner of the country," adopt a permanent corporate tax credit for research and development, support "network neutrality" (treating all traffic the same), ensure consumer privacy protection, improve security of gov networks, and generate new spending on technological infrastructure.
