Local television news is highly valued by viewers and the idea that the UK could have up to 80 town or city channels is one that would be welcomed by many and could contribute much to the public good.rnSo it is no surprise that the Voice of the Listener and Viewer (VLV) is concerned about Ofcom's insistence on flogging off the spectrum that could provide such local channels to the highest bidder.rnWould-be local channels will find themselves up against purveyors of mobile broadband and mobile TV in auctions for the relevant spectrum. And the chances are that any local news operation would struggle to match bids from mobile-phone operators.
