ITV's entry into the quiz-television market could create a tough climate for existing operators, with first-year turnover for the newly launched ITV Play likely to come close to the entire sector's revenues in 2005. The 24-hour channel launched on Freeview last month offering presenter-led quizzes and an eight-hour block of automated games from interactive producers Two Way TV. It follows the August 2005 launch, also on Freeview, of Quiz Call from 4Ventures, the commercial arm of Channel 4. With these channels from the two main UK commercial broadcasters, other players in the sector — where the bulk of revenues come from premium-rate telephone calls — are concerned that there may not be space for smaller operators.
