Premiere, the German pay-television operator, is planning new measures to boost subscriptions to high-definition television, after expressing disappointment at take-up of the service. Michael Bornicke, the company's chief financial officer, said that the company had acquired about 40,000 high-definition subscribers since its commercial launch in January. "It seems low because it is low," he said. "We would like to see higher figures, but we are still sticking to our target of 500,000 by mid-2008." Speaking at the recent IBC trade show in Amsterdam, he explained that consumers had been deterred because it was too complicated to migrate to high definition. Premiere is planning to tackle that problem for the pre-Christmas sales rush.
