BSkyB's acquisition of Easynet will see the pay-television broadcaster launch a full-blown internet-protocol television (IPTV) in 2007. The service will be totally separate from its satellite offer, enabling BSkyB to target the two million or so homes that cannot take a satellite dish. But BSkyB is not yet ready to give up on the technology that has served it so well. James Murdoch, the company's chief executive last week stressed that the target of reaching 10 million subscribers by the end of the decade was still achievable with satellite. Analysts were mostly supportive of BSkyB's internet strategy, even though it was seen in some quarters as a sharp u-turn from the "storage trumps bandwidth" message from the early days of Murdoch's tenure.
