European media and communications companies are preparing for a second wave of mergers and acquisitions, with US companies likely to fuel the next round of consolidation, a leading player claimed last week. Harry Sloan, chairman and chief executive of Hollywood studio MGM, told the European Media Leaders Summit that there had been a "remarkable increase in strategic initiatives in the last 12 months". He said that he now expected a "second wave" of buying.
