Swipe right. Giant pandas are interested in each other after all -despite their reputation for apathy. We just have to give them a choice. Panda hook-ups have been shown to be more likely to produce a cub if there's a mutual attraction. Ronald Swaisgood of San Diego Zoo in California and his colleagues devised a set of experiments in which pandas saw two possible mates through windows into adjoining enclosures. The team then recorded which one received the most sexual interest indicated by behaviours like scent-marking, urination, masturbation and penile erections. After a day or so, two pandas were placed in the same enclosure to breed.
