摘要

Although prevalent in many industries, classical thermoset resins based on condensation of phenol, urea or melamine with formaldehyde have been under attack due to health and environmental issues. Of particular concern is exposure to and release of formaldehyde during processing. Latent formaldehyde in some finished products has also raised health concerns. This has attracted research into alternative chemistries which employ innocuous materials. Acrylic ther-mosets are a safe, attractive alternative to formaldehyde condensates. This chemistry produces bonded materials with excellent mechanical properties. The chemistry, mechanical properties and cure conditions of acrylic ther-mosets are discussed in this article.
