Forget about fiscal years, January 1, or any other indicator of the start of "next year." I have always retained the feeling from days long ago that the year actually starts in September when school begins again. For some reason, at age 52, I still feel a flash of depression and apprehension after the Labor Day weekend for no reason other than historical dread about the loss of my summer free time from a forced return to "learning."
