Superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) have been used in hygienic products for absorption of body fluids for about the last 15 years. Most SA technology has been targeted at baby diapers due to the large market. Unquestionably, much has been learned over the years by polymer chemists and absorbent core developers. Taken together, their findings can be applied to other product segments, such as adult incontinence and feminine care. Therefore, it is appropriate to discuss how Stockhausen's SAs, having different product performance attributes, can be used optimally in products manufactured using the air-laid process. In recent years, airlaid technology has gained significant notoriety for its apparent ease of making a wide variety of complex absorbent structures on a turn-key basis.
