摘要

Polypropylene products are an important segment of the worldwide synthetic fiber market. PP is a preferred material for nonwoven fabrics, finding utility in applications as diverse as coverstock for personal care and geo-textiles for construction. As PP fiber further penetrates various markets, displacing traditionally used materials, the requirements for the fiber finishes applied to PP will become more stringent. Work is underway at companies that supply critical fiber finish components, to develop new products in response to the increasing market demands. No doubt, the impact of new chemistry for use as fiber finish components would be significant, but given the time for qualification of the new chemistry, this would appear to be a longer-term solution. A more immediate solution would be to improve the performance of current fiber finish technology through expert formulation of the fiber finish component chemistry available.
