In the fourth quarter of 1999, Arthur D. Little conducted a comprehensive market study to update its knowledge and understanding of the nonwovens industry. To do so, the company interviewed a representative sample of approximately 30 industry players, i.e., large and small companies across the value chain, mostly in Europe and the U.S. The industry survey was complemented with market data analysis. Roll goods producers were interviewed, and so were their suppliers, i.e., fiber and absorbent producers, equipment manufacturers (both turnkey and component), and their customers--the end good producers. This article summarizes some of the key findings.
