The business environment has been changed by consumer needs and IT technologies. Now, virtual enterprises, collaborative projects between companies, are necessary to beat the global competition. One important function in a virtual enterprise is document-sharing between companies. CoOrbter is a new platform for doing this. It can establish a document-sharing environmental by adding a simple but flexible server on each company's intranet. It connects existing document management systems indirectly via HTTP. Thus, users can seamlessly read documents not only of their own company but also those of other companies using a WWW browser. Moreover, CoOrbiter does not restrict existing intranet services in any way.
