The introduction of FTTH on a large scale requires costs to be reduced. Besides using new opti- cal fiber calbes, transmission equipment, and related technologies, total costs must be reduced by using new technologies for access network architectures that can provide sufficient capacity for efficiently meeting demands for higher speeds. This report introduces new technologies for access network architectures.
