摘要

This special issue of NIMB collects papers submitted during the 2012 Computer Simulation of Radiation Effects in Solids (COSIRES 2012) international conference, which was held in Santa Fe, NM USA on June 24-June 29, 2012. COSIRES 2012 is the 11th edition of a series that began in 1992 in Berlin, Germany, which was chaired by Jochen Biersack. Since that first conference, COSIRES has taken place every two years and has been hosted in the United Kingdom, Japan, Finland, China, Poland, a second time in Germany, and multiple times in the United States. This biennial conference is a major international forum to present and discuss the recent achievements in the advanced computer modeling of surface and bulk phenomena stimulated by all forms of irradiation. Fundamental understanding of these phenomena is often not accessible by experiments, since they occur on very small time and length scales.
