In the aftermath of announcements by Babcock & Wilcox and General Atomics related to small modular reactors (SMR) that drew the attention of the Wall Street Journal and other media outlets, Hyperion Power Generation notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on February 25 that it intends to apply for design certification for the Hyperion Power Module (HPM) in fiscal year 2012, which runs from October 2011 through September 2012.
