摘要

The protection of the marine environment from ship-generated pollution has generated a very large body of literature since the subject first gathered global momentum in the aftermath of the Torrey Canyon disaster almost four decades ago. Much of this literature understandably concentrates on the technical and legal aspects related to prevention, liability, and damage compensation. As a result, this publication that provides an up-to-date analysis of the regulation of vessel-source pollution from the perspective of the political interests of the principal interests in the maritime transportation industry is a very welcome addition to the literature. Furthermore, the book also offers a very comprehensive and convincing account on how pollution from ships may be even better regulated and reduced.
