摘要

This is the first of two special issues of Ocean Dynamics presenting some of the recent results of the 14th International Biennial Conference on Physics of Estuaries and Coastal Seas (PECS 2008) held in Liverpool, England, UK, 15-29 August 2008. All the articles appearing in these two special issues of Ocean Dynamics have gone through a thorough peer review process as expected for any other article in the journal; we would like to take this opportunity to thank the referees for their reviews and useful comments which have helped to improve the end product.
