摘要

The ambitious 38-day Windows to the Deep 2019 ROV and mapping expedition shed new light on both the marine life and seafloor geography off the southeastern US coast. From May 30 to July 12, NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer conducted 19 ROV dives, mapped 36,000+ km~2 (an area larger than the State of Maryland), and discovered a new cold seep and extensive deep-sea coral and sponge habitats. This expedition marked Okeanos Explorer's 100th mission, a celebratory achievement that is a credit to the shoreside and seagoing teams who have participated in the last decade of expeditions and to NOAA's commitment to ocean exploration.
