With investment expected to be less than half of what it was in 2014, operators are likely to be spending their cash more wisely than ever in 2017. The global exploration budget is expected to be US$40 billion in 2017. This is about the same as in 2016, despite oil prices rising and stabilizing somewhat, but it is less than half that during 2012-2014, according to Wood Mackenzie.
