The price for a 150,000 dwt newbuild increased by $1.5m m-o-m to $94m despite no new orders being placed in March. So far this year no newbuild contracts have been placed, but activity remains strong in other market sectors, so Suezmax newbuild prices have continued to increase. In March the secondhand prices for 5-yo and 10-yo 150,000 dwt vessels remained steady at $96m and $84m respectively. This was despite a healthy level of activity and 3 sales being reported. A prompt 5-yo vessel commands a premium of $2m over the price of a newbuild. This shows that owners are still keen on early acquisitions to take advantage of the historically high rates.
