The ECLIPPS Concerted Research Program has as its aim to supply manufacturers with tools allowing for the prediction of icing accretion on airframes and propulsive system, as well as the performance degradation under icy conditions. These tools have three main technical aims:- predicting the accretion of icing on exposed areas;- predicting the degradation in performances of the vehicle, in other words the impact on the drag and lift for an aircraft, or on power for a helicopter;- sizing the protection systems: anti-icing (conti-nuous evaporation of captured drops) and de-icing (accumulation and cyclical elimination of ice).
