Professor Masanori Ohya, an outstanding physicist and mathematician, one of the creators and propagators of information dynamics as a new branch of modern science, died on September 17, 2016 at the age of 69. Professor Ohya was born on March 21, 1947, in Chiba, Japan. His scientific education started at the University of Tokyo, where in the period of 1967-68 he was a student in the Department of Mathematics and subsequently, in 1968-70, in the Department of Physics. In 1976, working under the supervision of Prof. Gerard G. Emch at the University of Rochester, New York, USA, he received the Ph.D. degree in physics. Independently, he was a student of Prof. Hisaharu Umegaki at Tokyo Institute of Technology, where he obtained the D.Sc. degree.
