We propose a two-wavelength pump-probe technique to probe the gain recovery characteristics of an erbium-doped fiber amplifier. The two-wavelength pulse pairs are generated through the direct modulation of a single distributed feedback laser array. The proposed technique allows us to measure the wavelength dependence of the recovery time after gain saturation is induced by a signal of the same wavelength. (C) 2016 Elsevier Inc.
