摘要

A novel technique to enhance the sensitivity of single-fiber (SF) MZI based refractive index sensor is presented. An indigenously fabricated SF-MZI has been placed in MZI cascaded fiber loop mirror (FLM) and its sensitivity is enhanced from 20.24 nm/RIU to 40.92 nm/RIU over a relatively large range from 1.3344 RIU to 1.4532 RIU. Further, the RI sensitivity of SF-MZI can be improved from 41.03 nm/RIU to 59.84 nm/RIU by changing the orientation of the phase shifters incorporated inside the fiber loop of MZI cascaded FLM configuration. The RI sensitivity of the interferometer has been increased almost three-fold, for the first time, post-fabrication without inducing any physical change in its structure.
