Photoluminescence, scintillation and thermoluminescence properties of undoped and Ce-doped SrLaAl3O7 crystals grown using the optical Floating Zone technique were examined. An intense broad emission peak at 400 nm are observed from photoluminescence excitation-emission maps and scintillation spectra of the Ce-doped SrLaAl3O7 crystals, with the origin is ascribed to the 5d-4f transitions of Ce3+. The primary decay of the Cedoped and undoped SrLaAl3O7 crystals are attributable to the Ce3+ ions and intrinsic luminescence, respectively.
