An expert approachAn ACE nature tour always starts with its expert. In recent years a number of highly experienced tour leaders have come on board, including conservationist Kevin Hand, ecologist and ornithologist Dr Peter Exley, geologist Dr Morag Hunter, biogeographer Dr Harriet Allen and botanist Professor John Parker. These experts impress me not only in their specialist subjects, but also in the broader ecology of the areas in which they have researched.Marcus Kohler for example - a keen bird and animal ecologist - has developed a fascinating and different autumn tour to the Isles of Scilly to coincide with the bird migration, interwoven with many other aspects of these islands, including their Bronze and Iron Age past (see page 6). It is this combination that exemplifies ACE's approach to nature - an immersive blend of natural history with history, archaeology, geology and landscape (and, of course, good food!) that is very difficult to beat.
