Nordstrom, Inc, has often been criticized for being too staid in an increasingly casual world, but no one has ever said that about the company's Internet subsidiary Nordstrom.com. Its president and CEO Dan Nordstrom, is more likely to be described as cool than staid, and his business ideas are very much of his generation rather than the three that went before him. He was given the task of launching the website in 1998 because of his success in starting the catalog operation four years before.
