Land 8710 Army Littoral Manoeuvre Phase 1 will replace two very old platforms. These are the Lighter, Amphibious, Resupply, Cargo Vehicle - for obvious reasons better known as the LARCV - and the Landing Craft Mechanized, Mark 8 (LCM-8). The "V" in LARCV could also refer to the Roman numeral designation for its 5 tonne pay load. The LCM-8 has a displacement of 55 tonnes and can carry roughly 60 tonnes of stuff. Both have been in use since the late 1950s. The latest from Defence regarding project timing is: -Amphibious vehicles (LARCV). Invitation to Register Interest responses are being evaluated. Defence will not say how many have been received but has previously indicated strong interest from industry with numerous replies. It is anticipated that a Request for Tender will be issued in the 3rd quarter 2021.
