For more than 30 years, the July issue of Packaging Impressions has served as a celebration of the label segment of the packaging industry, complete with the annual TLMI Products & Services Guide, and a report on the state of the label industry. And although this is not a typical July, in a year that has not seen much cause for celebration, the label segment has still given the printing and packaging industries a beacon of hope in dark times. As Senior Editor Patrick Henry reports in this year's State of the Label Industry feature (page 16), the segment has done comparatively well in facing off against the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic chaos it has wrought. While the industry has taken a hit, demand for labels in a variety of segments went through the roof when the pandemic first struck the U.S. and consumers across the country went into varied states of lockdown.
