The chilled food market continues to thrive as modern time-constrained lifestyles create high demand for easy to cook meals. There have been, of course, some testing times for both the chilled and frozen food sectors of late with the latest food scares becoming flavour of the month, so to speak, with the media. But, as they used to say in days of less sophisticated packaging: yesterday's news is tomorrow's fish and chip paper, and apparently people soon got over how much horsemeat they may have unwittingly consumed while other topics took over the headlines. More recently, chicken packaging has been an issue as a recent Food Standards Agency report found that 7% of the outer packaging of chicken sold in supermarkets also tested positive for campylobacter, the most common form of food poisoning in the UK. It seems that this was an easier storm for the industry to weather than previous scares.
