Peter Gerstrom, chairman, ESA Yes. Government intervention, in the correct way, certainly has an important role to play in improving packaging recycling rates. A serious commitment to the circular economy requires focusing on the entire circle, including the design of packaging and the demand for recycled content, all of which the government can encourage through financial incentives, guidelines and sector initiatives, such as the Courtauld Commitment. All parts of the supply chain can improve on how they communicate with each other.
