I am looking at buying a TIJ (thermal Inkjet) coder. How much should I expect to spend? Does a TU printer cost more than a laser coder or a CIJ (continuous inkjet) coder? John Tierney, marketing director, Linx Printing Technologies: TIJ offers one of the lowest initial purchase prices and is good for lower volumes and low speeds. Consumables costs may also be less than CIJ coding depending on the amount of ink being used. It is worth noting that in environments where ink volumes are high, or cartridges need frequent changes due to ink blockages, the cost of TIJ can be higher than other technologies over the life of the printer. CIJ and laser are therefore better suited to higher production runs.
