Packaging accounts for only a small proportion of the UK's items of litter, according to research by Encams on behalf of the Industry Council for Packaging and the Environment (Incpen).rnAccording to the survey, conducted between August and October, the most prominent litter was chewing gum at 78.5% followed by cigarette ends at 197%. Packaging accounted for just 1.3% and long-time target of the national media plastic carrier bags 0.03%.rn"To deal with litter you have to inform people and have good cleaning programmes in place," said Incpen director Jane Bickerstaffe.
