With the economy in tatters and green being the colour on everyone's lips the luxury packaging sector is quickly having to adapt. Jill Park met Gerald Martines at Luxepack to discuss RPC's plan of actionrnGosmetic packaging is typically viewed as being morernimmune than other sectorsrnto two things: first, recessions, and second, the environmental issue. In times ofrneconomic difficulty, sales of lipstickrnand other products have traditionallyrnremained buoyant. They are, after all,rnluxury items and likely to be bought asrngifts or as a treat regardless of what'srnhappening on the stock market. On therngreen front, luxury packaging needs tornfeel expensive and in customers' mindsrnthat means heavy - so lightweightingrnhas not traditionally been at the top ofrnluxury brand owners' lists.
