Silgan Holdings is to buy Vem de Tapas Metalicas, the Spanish producer of metal vacuum closures, for €6.8m (£5m). Silgan expects to complete the deal in the first quarter of 2008. The US-based packaging group said it would continue to operate Vem de Tapas Metalicas's factory in Torello, Spain, but would move the assets of the firm's Vac Vem operation in Dongguan, China, to its own facility in Shanghai. The Spanish firm had sales of €20min 2007.
