摘要

"To say packaging is rubbish and therefore unnecessaryrntakes one sentence, but to explain its benefits takesrnhours," says Robert Opie, director and founder of thernMuseum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising. Withrnthe rise of the environmental debate, in the eyes of many, rnpackaging has become synonymous with waste.rn"Packaging gets a lot of negative media attention. I wanted thernmuseum to be a record of its progress, because without that, itsrnachievements go without recognition and it gets misunderstood."rnThe museum, in London's Notting Hill, features more thanrn12,000 items collected by Opie dating from the Victorian era tornthe present. The exhibits are arranged in chronological orderrnand show how society, as well as its packaging, has evolved.rn"People think 'why would I be interested in a museum of packaging?' They assume that because packaging gets thrown away it is therefore boring. But for many of the products and brands we love, the image we have is of the packaging," says Opie. "Packaging is totally integrated into our lives. People forget that although there was a time when there wasn't packaging, we had to shop and cook in very different ways."
