摘要

Shock columnist and famous petrolhead Jeremy Clarkson recently raised eyebrows when he described Wrap, The Waste & Resources Action Programme, as a "sinister government agency". Clarkson was taking exception, in his inimitable fashion, to Wrap's Love Food Hate Waste campaign, which aims to highlight the huge amount of food that is never eaten but simply thrown away. Packagers may be sympathetic to Clarkson's sentiments, although for different reasons; many in the industry are critical of Wrap's former focus on packaging waste, and its apparent crusade to cut down on packaging.rnKey to Wrap's drive on packaging waste has been the Courtauld Commitment, the agreement signed by Wrap, the government and 11 UK retailers at London's Courtauld Gallery in July 2005. Two months ago, waste minister Joan Ruddock and Wrap's chief executive Liz Goodwin claimed an initial victory in the raging debate over Courtauld when they announced that the project's first aim, to design out packaging growth by this year, had been achieved.
