The general public and our Government do not fully understand or appreciate packaging's vital role in society, or the sector's importance to the UK economy. The much-publicised action taken by the Women's Institute last month, with regard to excess food packaging in supermarkets, once again highlighted the poor image packaging has in the eyes of consumers. Unless the industry works harder to correct these misperceptions, it will continue to be an uphill struggle to recruit new blood, have constructive discussions regarding waste reduction and muster greater support for UK manufacturing. But who is championing our cause?
