The RFID Networking Forum in Heathrow last month was host to dozens of talks, presentations and round-table discussions on every aspect of RFID from its role in defence to retail supply chain management. However, certain issues about the technology were raised repeatedly. One of these was the challenges of putting in place a global standard for RFID. While the EPCglobal standard seems to be leading the way, there are concerns that it is too US-focused and is not working closely enough with the International Standards Organisation. As Simon Holloway, senior architectural SE for Microsoft, who attended the forum, said: "There have been lots of disgruntled comments being raised about the issue of frequency. There are three different bands and manufacturers might end up dealing with more than one type, which might mean having more than one tag on a case or dual frequency tags, which all add costs."
