Two private equity giants, Blackstone and Carlyle, are believed to be preparing bids for cartons group Chesapeake, according to media reports. The Sunday Times reported in late May that the two were regarded as front-runners to acquire Chesapeake from its current owners, investment houses Irving Place and Oaktree, for around £400m. However, further reports have suggested that Platinum Equity - the company that has only recently sold cartons group Contego - has also emerged as a potential acquirer. Chesapeake, Carlyle and Blackstone have not commented on the matter, while a Platinum Equity spokesman said the company does not discuss potential transactions.
