The Republic of Ireland is set to follow Australia and ban branding on tobacco packaging. Legislation on plain packs could come into force early next year with the Irish government recently signing off the proposal. The brand name will be presented in a uniform typeface for all brands and packs would be in a plain neutral colour. Irish minister for health, James Reilly, accused tobacco companies as "purveyors of death" and revealed that he lost members of his family to smoking.
