Global beer group AB InBev has announced seven new global environmental targets, which include setting a formal target for reduction for packaging for the firsttime. It aims to decrease packaging by 100,000 tonnes by the end of 2017 - the equivalent to the weight of about a quarter of a billion full cans of beer. In the past, AB said it had encouraged packaging reductions in an effort to reduce fuel consumption, increase its use of recycled content and cut back on waste, but not formally. It cited the UK example of Becks, where bottles are now 11% lighter and require less energy to produce.
