HP has launched the Scitex Flatbed 10000 printer in a bid to win more business in the point of sale and retail-ready market. The sector is currently dominated by offset and screen printing technology and HP is aiming for shortrun applications. It believes it can eat into the market share thanks to digital print's ability to incorporate variable data and allow users to print what they need. HP said that the machine, which prints on corrugated board, is able to offer near-offset quality and will be available from November this year. It is currently being beta tested.
