摘要

While robots have long been associated with palletising, today's solutions draw on technology that allows them to handle lighter weights and smaller objects with greater dexterity and at higher speeds. This makes them more suitable for packaging operations elsewhere in the plant. "We are going through an educational phase," says Paul Wilkinson, business development manager with Pacepacker Services, which has been proactively asking its customers: 'did you realise you could automate your pick and place operations?' "Pick and place is an area of automation that has historically been widely overlooked due to the complexity of packing irregular products. However, it is also a labour intensive operation, which can lead to product wastage due to human error."
