Chesapeake's Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Packaging division has invested in new Braille reading technology for its Leicester site. The Dot Scan system can accurately read and compare the Braille dots on every carton or label. It also measures the height of all dots ensuring they conform to the new European standard recently introduced. Jon Drennan, general manager at the Leicester site, said: "Priorto the Dot Scan system, Braille dots were compared to a customer approved PDF using a film and the height was measured manu ally. The process was slow and proved, at times, unreliable.
