From taggants to serialisation, holograms and RFID, there are a number of options available to manufacturers of packaged goods who want to protect their products against counterfeiting. In the pharmaceutical industry, however, one option -the 2D datamatrix code - has emerged as the industry standard, and by 2013, when the EU Falsified Medicines Directive enters into full force, every pharmaceutical product will carry a 2D code.
