Detecting clear-shiny, dark-glossy or multi-reflective surfaces has always been a challenge in automated packaging operations, especially where there are complex curved shapes or transparent outlines. The W27-3 MultiPac optical sensor from Sick UK offers a promising new solution. It eliminates the possibility of false or misleading signals and achieves highly-consistent detection in multi-product handling applications for packaging with shiny surfaces or complex curves and indentations, performing consistently in applications where other sensors would provide fluctuating or unreliable signals.
