摘要

In 1997. the Japanese Consumers' Co-operative Union started the operation in accordance with the Guidelines for Containers and Packaging for Minimization of Refuse. In FY1998, the co-op products used about 7,OOO ton of glass PET bottles for containers and packaging (costing about twenty million yen of a commission for recycling). With increasing number of targets for recy- cling scheduled in the year of 2OOO. use of containers and packaging is expected to reach about 3O,000 ton (amounting to around 3OO million yen of a commission for recycling). Then the Japanese Consumers' Co-operative Union plans to adopt labeling (identification) of source separation to encourage the consumers to implement hand-sorting of refuse. thereby increas- ing the amount of containers and packaging for recycling, and also to promote weight reduction (e. g., reduced wall thicknesses, minimized multi-layer films) of containers and packaging for the co- op products and selling of refillable products, aiming at minimized wastes. In addition, the Japanese Consumers' Co-operative Union will seize the opportunity to discuss the identification for source separation in progress under the control of the Government in order to express the opinion from a standpoint in favor of nationwide adoption of labeling (identification) of source separation to all products under legal obligation which the Union has voluntarily carried out for the co-op products.
